For the first time, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed collecting, monitoring, assessing, and addressing hospital emissions. It’s a pivotal move towards regulating greenhouse gas production in healthcare, an industry responsible for approximately 8.5% of US emissions. The Initiative will help advance low-emissions, resilient health care across the U.S. Health professionals are critical in communicating to CMS that this Initiative is a necessary step toward improving patient outcomes, reducing emissions, and building climate-resilient hospitals.
