Federal Residential Solar Energy Tax Credit
The federal residential solar energy tax credit can be claimed on federal income taxes for a percentage of the cost of a solar energy system paid for by the taxpayer. The installation of the system must be completed during the tax year.
Solar energy systems installed between 2022 and 2032 are eligible for a tax credit worth 30% of the cost of the system and its installation. At this time there is no maximum amount that can be claimed.

HEAR Program
The Home Energy Efficiency Rebates (HOMES) and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR, formerly known as HEEHRA) programs are key initiatives under the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America agenda. These programs comprise the Home Energy Rebates, contributing to a healthier environment while combating climate impacts and making energy efficiency more affordable. This fall, Arizona will fully launch the remainder of its HEAR program, offering rebates of up to $14,000 to help lower- and middle-income homeowners and renters upgrade their equipment and appliances. The program will cover up to 100% of costs for lower-income families and up to 50% for moderate-income families (those earning between 80-150% of their area median income). Once the HOMES and HEAR programs are fully deployed, an estimated 23,000+ households will benefit, including those reached in the initial phase. This initiative is expected to save approximately 105.133 GWh of energy (equivalent to removing many cars from the road and reducing CO2 emissions) and create over 2,600 clean energy jobs.

Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit
An individual or corporate income tax credit is available for taxpayers who own a qualified energy generator that first produces electricity before Jan. 1, 2021, using a qualified energy resource.
A qualified energy generator is a facility that has at least 5 megawatts (or 5,000 kW) generating capacity located on land in Arizona that is owned or leased by the taxpayer, that produces electricity using a qualified energy resource and that sells electricity to an unrelated entity, unless the electricity is sold to a public service corporation.
Approval and certification from the Arizona Department of Revenue is required prior to claiming the tax credit. Applications must be submitted between January 2 and January 31 of the following calendar year of production. Applications not submitted in January will not be accepted. No more than $20 million can be approved by the department in a calendar year.
