Hope everyone is finding some relief from the heat.

EXTREME HEAT:

Kids are back to school and facing extreme heat nationwide, decreasing ability for kids to learn and play.  Here is a Back to School toolkit from the Federation of American Scientists for this upcoming messaging week if you want to share on your socials. #HeatAgenda. Google doc version here

    1. As elected leaders from cities and counties across the country, we collectively, and on behalf of those we represent, urge you to fully fund and support the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its essential programs that help our communities recover from extreme weather and natural disasters, which are now more frequent and intense, due to climate change.

  2. Extreme Weather State Factsheets (AZ,  Open until September 18

    1. These factsheets show the effects of climate change in Arizona, and the impacts it has on the daily lives of residents.

    2. Sign on to show that leaders from these states demand action on extreme weather

  3. Tell Members of Congress It’s Time to Protect Workers from Deadly Heat

    1. Americans across the country are facing hotter and more dangerous working conditions every year. As extreme heat arrives earlier and becomes more frequent and intense, nobody should have to choose between earning a paycheck and protecting their health and safety.

    2. We must act now. Higher temperatures can increase demand for emergency services, strain electric grids, damage infrastructure, and make it harder for working class Americans to do their jobs in a safe and healthy environment.

    3. Sign the petition and demand that Congress protect workers from deadly heat and act on climate.

Center for Biological Diversity - based in Tucson, lots of legal actions to reverse threats to existing laws, very effective; 

Earthjustice – one of the largest groups, related to Sierra Club, also legal work to fight threats to our climate

Wild Earth Guardians – smaller, focuses on the Southwest, mainly New Mexico and Arizona
